Lance is native of Pueblo, CO. He played college football and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Concordia University – Seward, NE in 1998. Lance graduated from Creighton University in 2004 with his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. After PT school, Lance completed a 4-month post-graduate residency with emphasis on the Maitland-based approach to manual therapy at the Kaiser Permanente Hayward Physical Therapy Fellowship in Advanced Orthopedic Manual Therapy in Hayward, CA. Lance is also certified in using Active Release Techniques (ART) to treat soft-tissue and peripheral nerve injuries. He is the only Physical Therapist Full-Body Certified in the Rogue Valley.
Lance specializes in treating people with spine impairments, repetitive strain soft tissue injuries, post-operative orthopedic conditions and sports related injuries. He also has a passion for treating injured runners and helping them return to action and to reach their goals.
His hobbies include distance (marathon and ultra) running, cooking, snowboarding, traveling and supporting his favorite football teams. Lance and his wife, Ann Sprague, live in Ashland along with their dogs, Cutler and Honu.
Ann Sprague was born and raised in Red Cloud, Nebraska. She attended the University of Wyoming for her Bachelor of Arts degree followed by her Master of Fine Arts degree in Choreography and Performance of Dance at Mills College in Oakland, CA. After an injury to her ankle and subsequent physical therapy treatments, Ann realized she could combine her love of movement with the science of movement to help others improve their health and function. Ann returned to school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska graduating cum laude with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2020.
Ann worked in outpatient physical therapy settings since graduating, but decided she wanted a practice that would allow her time to focus on the individual priorities and goals of the patient. She opened Upper Rogue Physical Therapy in Shady Cove, Oregon in June of 2012, which merged with Direct Physical Therapy in April 2020.
Ann is married to Lance Cooper, who co-owns Direct Physical Therapy. They live in Ashland and have 2 wonderful 4-legged furry children, Cutler and Honu. She enjoys running, yoga and local wine, cheese and chocolate.
